Recovery Toolbox Releases a New MSSQL Repair Solution with Record Efficiency and Ease of Use.

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) July 10, 2014

Recovery Toolbox, the author of a growing family of fast, compact and reliable data recovery tools for many popular file and database formats, is glad to present a major functional update for Recovery Toolbox for SQL Server. The new version is based on a completely rewritten engine and features a host of functional and performance improvements. http://www.repairsql.recoverytoolbox.com/

Recovery Toolbox, a data recovery expert known for its deep expertise in the field of data recovery, announces the availability of the newest and largely improved Recovery Toolbox for SQL Server, a powerful MSSQL repair tool for database professionals and regular users looking for a way to restore a single database damaged after a system crash. http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/

The interface of the program is essentially a multi-step recovery wizard that guides the user from the very first file selection screen to the final step containing a detailed log of the current recovery session. Recovery Toolbox for SQL Server works with damaged database files of the most popular formats (Microsoft SQL Server 7, 2000, 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2) and of any size damaged in various types of accidents, ranging from hard drive failures to virus attacks. http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/help_sql.html

This MSSQL repair tool is absolutely irreplaceable for network and database administrators dealing with MS SQL Server database corruption on a regular basis, and users looking to restore their data after a crash and with no backup at hand. The program comes with a convenient integrated database browser and supports two data output modes: output to a database and output to a script. In the former case, all recovered data are saved to a user-defined database; the latter option saves recovered data to an SQL script on the user’s hard drive that can be easily copied over to another system. Recovery Toolbox for SQL Server restores all major SQL database objects types, including system and user tables, their content, views, stored procedures, user data types and functions. http://www.sql.recoverytoolbox.com/

“Database recovery solutions have always been a top priority for us, since database corruption often has a lot more serious consequences than the corruption of a PowerPoint presentation, for example,” explained Victor Bobrov, Senior Product Manager at Recovery Toolbox. “Today, we present Recovery Toolbox for SQL Server â€" rewritten from scratch and featuring one of the most sophisticated engines available on today’s market.”

The demo version of this MSSQL repair tool can be downloaded free of charge from the official website of its manufacturer.

DriveSavers Data Recovery Services Available for SMR Drives

NOVATO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

DriveSavers, the worldwide leader in data recovery, eDiscovery and digital forensic solutions, announced today data recovery services for Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) hard disk drives. Should data loss occur, DriveSavers Data Recovery experts are available 24/7 to help users recover files from drives that implement this new technology.

DriveSavers is the first company to successfully perform SMR data recovery. Similar to the traditional hard disk drive (HDD), SMR technology utilizes spinning platters and read-write heads. However, the primary differentiators between the two drives include storage capacity and an architectural change in the way data is stored. SMR space includes 5 or 6TB in a single hard drive and data is stored by overlapping tracks to increase track density and improve aerial density.

“As new technologies are constantly released into the marketplace, DriveSavers is always working to update our practices and proprietary expertise to recover data from new storage devices,” said Chris Bross, chief technology officer at DriveSavers Data Recovery. “As the SMR drive continues to gain popularity in enterprise and data center applications, the vulnerability of data loss also increases. With more than 28 years in the industry, DriveSavers continues to stand in the forefront of data recovery and is ready to recover data from SMR drive technologies.”

Authorized and recommended by leading computer and storage device manufacturers, DriveSavers is the only company in the industry to post proof of annual security and Cleanroom certifications. To learn more about DriveSavers forensic expertise, please visit www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com.

Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) July 08, 2014

Recovery Toolbox, one of the leading suppliers of compact, fast and highly focused data recovery solutions for the most popular software products and office applications, announces the immediate availability of the completely updated OE-Mail Recovery. This advanced recovery tool knows how to open a *.dbx file after a system crash and restore user’s data in the shortest time possible. http://www.opendbxfile.oemailrecovery.com/

The new release relies on a brand-new proprietary engine capable of applying several algorithms for analyzing the contents of a damaged file and extracting the maximum of recoverable data. The use of the new core also improved the overall performance of the program and its stability. http://www.oemailrecovery.com/batch-repair-outlook-express.html

OE-Mail Recovery is an all-in-one tool for users who don’t know how to open a .dbx file after a serious system crash and access their emails. The program requires absolutely no data recovery experience of any sort and is completely suitable for novices. The program’s ease of use can also be attributed to its convenient wizard-based interface that turns the entire process into a sequence of simple steps that require minimal user involvement. http://www.oemailrecovery.com/howuse.html

The program comes with a convenient file browser that shows the content of damaged *.dbx files and enables users to pick particular items to be extracted to the hard drive. OE-Mail Recovery knows how to open a *.dbx file even in situations where other tools appear helpless, and makes no distinction between the causes of file corruption, be it a hardware failure, an OS crash, a virus attack or anything else. The program is 100% self-sufficient and requires no additional tools for intermediate data conversion.

“OE-Mail Recovery is the ultimate *.dbx repair solution that offers one-click recovery both to novices and professionals dealing with damaged Outlook Express files regularly,” explained Victor Bobrov, Head of Development at Recovery Toolbox. “The new engine brings users more than just stability and increased speed â€" it actually makes it possible to resuscitate files than were no longer considered repairable.”

#PreMarket Primer: Monday, June 30: U.S. Data To Confirm Second Quarter Recovery

This week, economic data is expected to confirm once and for all that the US economy is back on solid ground after a shaky first quarter.

After first quarter GDP was revised down last week to show the nation’s largest decline in five years, investors are looking forward to a spate of data due out this week, all expected to paint a rosy picture of the nation’s recovery.

Jobs data due out on Thursday is expected to show gains above 200,000 for the fifth consecutive month, while the unemployment rate is expected to remain constant at 6.3 percent.

The Institute for Supply Management services and manufacturing reports are also expected to post impressive figures with services expected to rise for the fourth consecutive month and manufacturing set to increase for the fifth month in as many.

Top News

In other news around the markets:

  • On Monday, the U.S. government is expected to reveal a near $9 billion settlement with BNP Paribas over the bank’s violation of US sanctions. Reuters reported that the bank is expected to plead guilty to the criminal charge and could face a temporary ban on dollar-based transactions, but will hold on to it its New York state banking license.
  • Japanese factory output data helped support speculation that the Japanese economy will weather the government’s April tax hike without much damage as it showed a 0.5 percent rise in output. The data supports the Bank of Japan’s optimistic expectations that the nation’s economy will recover from its second quarter slump in the summer.
  • Outrage has been the response to news that Facebook manipulated the news feeds of its users to determine whether or not the number of positive or negative posts had an effect on their emotions. The study, conducted on around 700,000 unsuspecting users, has revived concerns about privacy issues as Facebook’s user agreement allows the company a lot of leeway in how it treats its customers.
  • On Monday, North Korea said it was going to try two US citizens for unspecified crimes against the state; further pushing back the chances of their return home. The announcement came just one day after the North Korean military defied the UN and fired two short range ballistic missiles.
  • Eurozone inflation came in flat at 0.5 percent on Monday, taking some of the pressure off of the European Central Bank to implement a large-scale quantitative easing program. Though the figure remained stable from May to June, it is still far below the region’s two percent target and well below one percent; something the ECB has termed “the danger zone."

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) June 25, 2014

With the ability to process and host data for ediscovery either in country at Kroll Ontrack’s data center or at their own premises behind their own firewalls in other countries, European companies now have the flexibility, control and security they need to successfully manage their electronic evidence and ediscovery obligations.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to our clients globally, we are responding to the need to carry out ediscovery locally,” said Tim Phillips, managing director of Kroll Ontrack International Legal Technologies. “Many of our European clients are part of global operations, but privacy and data protection laws make it critical for them to rely on local ediscovery solutions to respond to legal demands for data in litigation and investigations. We have reacted by providing an in-country solution in Germany and an onsite solution that can be rapidly deployed to other countries.”

“Ediscovery technologies are being used in a wide range of legal cases in Europe to carry out extensive e-searches across company data even when there are no formal discovery requirements,” said Phillips. “In Germany, Kroll Ontrack’s innovative ediscovery technologies give clients a real strategic advantage in internal and regulatory investigations and in both domestic and international litigation. Our German clients can now comply more easily with data protection laws, protect the confidentiality of their data themselves when they need to and benefit from the convenience that comes from engaging with us locally.”

Rand recovery stalls, focus on output data, ratings

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's currency weakened against the dollar on Monday as weak domestic fundamentals stalled rand bulls around the 10.55 level while the dollar gained broadly in the session.

The rand has been in recovery mode from a 10-week-low hit last week, but factors such as domestic output data and credit ratings announcements later this week are keeping investors on edge.

Dealers said failure to end a 20-week strike in the platinum mines was also a worry, partly as it might set the tone for tough talks in South Africa's broader 'strike season' annual rounds of mid-year wage negotiations.

The rand traded at 10.6250/dollar at 1549 GMT, down 0.4 percent from its close in New York on Friday.

The rand hit a session high of 10.5560 earlier in the day as it looked to continue a correcting trend from oversold levels from last Wednesday. However the currency lost momentum and weakened back to levels above 10.60.

"What's underlying for us is the importance of the mid-10.50's. It's very important that we break the lows of today," said Jim Bryson, a currency trader from Rand Merchant Bank in Johannesburg, adding that if the rand bulls fail to pick up momentum, the unit could retreat back to a 10.60-10.80 range.

Investors are worried about possible credit rating downgrades from Fitch and Standard and Poor's on Friday, which would bring further pressure on the rand.

The rand has been hit over the past few weeks by data showing Africa's most advanced economy was contracting, with further strikes looming. A credit downgrade could see the rand spiraling into further losses.

Investors will be looking to manufacturing and mining data out on Tuesday, to assess the extent of the slow-down.

Government bonds were flat, with the yield on the benchmark 2026 issue at 8.215 percent.

Riverbed SteelStore Helps Australian Home Builder Metricon Back Up Data to the Cloud and Reduce Its Storage Volume by ...

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Riverbed Technology (RVBD), the leader in application performance infrastructure, today announced that Metricon, one of the largest new home builders in Australia, is using Riverbed® SteelStore™ (formerly Riverbed Whitewater) cloud storage gateway products to gain control of the growing volumes of data that need to be backed up and available for recovery. For Metricon, SteelStore has reduced data storage costs and volumes by 80%, shrunk data transfer times by weeks, and saved $28,000 annually on tape costs alone, as well as saved the company more than 400 hours annually that used to be spent backing up to tape. With its data stored in Microsoft Azure, Metricon has also improved the reliability and accessibility of document backups.

Tweet This: .@MetriconHomes enables cloud backup and reduces storage & mgmt volumes by 80% with Riverbed #SteelStore: http://rvbd.ly/1jW9T8z

Established in 1976 with its head office in Melbourne, Metricon is one of the largest residential homebuilders in Australia, building thousands of homes each year.

To run a national, multi-office operation, keep mobile employees productive, boost employee efficiency and protect business data, Metricon’s Information Technology (IT) Group continually looks for the latest and greatest technology solutions. Data backups are a critical part of Metricon’s Melbourne data center resiliency strategy, but were consuming the IT staff’s time, budget and peace of mind. In addition to home warranties, Metricon must keep copies of contracts and other documents on file for seven years to meet legal requirements. In 2014, after almost 40 years in business, the company had accumulated nearly 40 terabytes of data that it backed up to tapes and moved offsite for safekeeping. By early 2014, George Chen, server engineer in the Metricon IT Group, and a colleague were spending 10 hours a week managing backups. And, if employees needed access to an archived file, it took hours to retrieve.

“Our infrastructure team is not very big and backups were becoming a big time drain,” said Chen. “They were taking time away from other maintenance tasks and from managing and improving our business-critical systems. Also, the integrity of tape backups was a concern. Our homes come with 25-year warranties, so we keep our backup tapes for decades. Tapes and tape drives break â€" we need to ensure that we have warranties and other documents on hand if our customers need them.”

The company decided to look into moving its data backups to the cloud to reduce costs, improve speed of access, and simplify management. Metricon deployed Microsoft Azure, the Microsoft public cloud offering, and initially used another solution for backing up data. But, after a month of data transfer, much of Metricon’s 39 terabytes still had not made it into Microsoft Azure due to backup software working too slowly over a standard Internet connection.

To speed up the transfer, Chen turned to SteelStore. Now, files are backed up to a local SteelStore appliance, which uses deduplication to eliminate redundancy in the data and then transfers files to Microsoft Azure based on access frequency. SteelStore keeps frequently accessed data cached on the appliance to improve recovery time while also ensuring that the entire data set is secured in Azure. SteelStore deduplication reduced the amount of Metricon data stored in the cloud from 39 terabytes to just 7 terabytes, accelerating the speed at which data was copied to Azure. Metricon still has the same backup policies â€" daily incremental backups and full weekly backups â€" but uses the low-cost, more secure, more available and instantly accessible public cloud as a storage tier rather than magnetic tape.

“By using Microsoft Azure and Riverbed SteelStore, we have reduced the time spent on backup by 80% â€" we are spending two hours a week instead of ten on backup work,” added Chen. “We can use these eight extra hours for more important things such as rolling out Microsoft Office 2013, upgrading to Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager and deploying new technologies that improve the business. In addition, I worry less with all of our data backed up to the cloud. We also have much faster access to our files whenever we want them. Restoring files from SteelStore and Microsoft Azure takes minutes versus the hours required to request backups from offsite tapes. This keeps employees productive and the business moving without interruption.”

“Our data is growing at a rate of about 20% a year, so reducing storage costs is important as the business grows,” said Chen. “With Microsoft Azure, we can now accommodate data growth cost-effectively and with greater peace of mind. At their current growth rate, in five years, Metricon’s storage footprint will be close to 100 terabytes of data, but with SteelStore, their data footprint will remain at a manageable 20 terabytes or less.”

As recovery takes hold, Czech companies' optimism builds

* Industrial production rises for 10th straight month

* Latest data point to revival in domestic, foreign demand

* Companies' confidence in recovery growing

* New investments in pipeline, but jobs to come later

* Markets count on central bank's FX policy into 2015

By Jason Hovet

PRAGUE, June 8 (Reuters) - Czech companies are growing more confident and slowly starting to look at new investment as a succession of strong data shows the beaten-down economy is beginning to spring back.

A year after the central European country climbed out of a record-long recession, Czech consumers are regaining confidence and some firms are planning to increase production and take on new workers.

State agency CzechInvest said this week it had already received 100 applications for investment aid this year, the most since 2008 and more than the 2013 total of 98 applicants.

Manufacturing is now growing, spurred by double-digit growth in exports to Germany and other western markets. Consumers also have less to worry about as a new centre-left cabinet reverses some of the fiscal restrictions of the previous administration.

That is feeding into a new optimism for the economy, says Czech Industry Confederation Vice-President Radek Spicar, although many will likely err on the side of caution for now.

"(Companies) will be investing more. Their investment appetite is increasing, that is for sure," he said.

"They see clear signs of improvement, they feel the situation is getting better, but ... companies are still very careful because what they've been through in the last few years has taught them a lesson."

Slumping demand at the height of the euro zone's debt crisis along with budget cuts and higher taxes under a former centre-right government had helped tilt the Czech economy into an 18-month recession that only ended last year.

But the economy - and mainly exporters - got a reviving jolt from the central bank's currency interventions last November to fight the risk of deflation. The move has weakened the crown by more than 6 percent, making Czech-made cars, auto parts, electronics and other goods more attractive.

WORKING LONGER SHIFTS

Otto Danek, who runs small electric motor maker ATAS Elektromotory Nachod and is vice-chairman of the Exporters' Association, said his sales are up 9 percent so far this year. He plans more hiring but is in no rush, illustrating a trend that analysts say show job growth will only come later.

"We should have 50-60 new people, but we have hired only 20 so far. We would rather do extended shifts and weekends (to meet higher demand)," Danek said.

The central bank has said the deflation risk has been averted, giving the economy a firmer footing. Other countries are still flirting with falling prices, including Poland and, notably, the euro zone, whose central bank's measures to pump money into the economy include charging banks to deposit funds.

The Czech central bank has committed to preventing the crown from firming beyond the 27 per euro level at least until the beginning of 2015, but has said several times that the probability is rising that the policy may be extended.

The crown traded at 27.48 to the euro on Friday, and has held in a tight range around that level since March.

DATA CASE GROWING

Data on Friday showed industrial output grew 7.7 percent year-on-year in April, above expectations, while new foreign orders increased 16.4 percent. Exports rose 11.2 percent.

That follows first-quarter gross domestic product data that put economic expansion at 2.5 percent year-on-year, the fastest in three years. On a quarterly basis, the economy grew by 0.4 percent, above central bank expectations. The HSBC/Markit PMI manufacturing survey came in at a three-year high this month and wage growth in the first quarter was the highest since 2009.

The central bank forecasts the economy to expand 2.6 percent this year after a contraction of 0.9 percent in 2013.

The bank said on Wednesday the GDP data showed a revival in household consumption and investments had a longer-term nature, evidenced in retail sales rising for a sixth straight month in April.

Analysts say the recovery is taking hold both in terms of external and domestic demand. The better mood is partly down to a government in power since January which has eased up on budget consolidation. The state is spending more, helping construction firms: state railway projects worth 38 billion crowns ($1.9 billion) are seen in 2014, Transport Minister Antonin Prachar said in March.

Companies are also counting on increased demand from Europe, especially in the important car sector. TPCA, a car plant run by Toyota Motor Corp and PSA Peugeot Citroen, had been hit by falling demand for its small car models in Europe's slowdown but expects to raise production by 14 percent this year to 210,000 vehicles.

"This year we are going to recruit another 700 people because of the renewal of a third shift in October," spokesman Radek Knava said. "We are expecting production to increase because of new models and a recovery in the European market." (Additional reporting by Robert Muller; Editing by Ruth Pitchford)

Disk Drill review

Disk Drill review

Currently in beta, Disk Drill’s a great data recovery tool for a number of reasons. The most important is that you don’t need to be a computer scientist to use it. That’s a huge bonus. Most similar tools are targeted at the geek market, with impenetrable interfaces and unfathomable commands. Disk Drill’s interface is bright and bold and helps you through every stage of the recovery process.

There are two major tasks Disk Drill enables. First, it can protect your local Mac drive. With the application’s Protection Vault switched on, you have the best possible chance of recovering deleted data. It keeps a record of deleted files, and their names and locations on your hard drive. So, if you click Empty Trash by accident, there’s a decent chance you’ll be able to get that file back. Especially if it’s fairly soon after the deed has been done.

Disk Drill combines this with more traditional data recovery features. It can scan FAT and NTFS drives for orphaned data, identify file types and even original names where possible. As a final option, it can perform a deep scan of your drive. This can take some time and success is variable. But we’re talking about an application that retrieves deleted files here, and that’s standard. For the record, we found it worked well in our tests, retrieving some files we’d thought were long gone.

OUR VERDICT

The pricing of data recovery tools is often rather cynical, with developers happy to capitalise on the misery of lost files. Right now, Disk Drill is free. Take advantage of that while you can.

UK manufacturing, mortgage data point to more balanced recovery

By Ana Nicolaci da Costa and Andy Bruce

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's economic recovery is showing signs of a healthier balance after data on Monday suggested some of the heat is coming out of the housing market while manufacturing remains strong.

Mortgage approvals fell to a nine-month low in April, the Bank of England said, suggesting new measures to control mortgage lending were leaving their mark.

A separate survey showed that growth in the manufacturing sector dipped only slightly in May and was still robust.

"The UK's economic rebound looks an awful lot healthier after today's data, with more evidence that this is no credit-fuelled bubble," said Rob Wood, an economist at Berenberg bank.

But with business investment still lagging, Britain may struggle to move away from consumer-led growth any time soon.

Britain's surprisingly fast economic revival since last year has been driven largely by consumer spending and an upturn in the housing market, underpinned by record low interest rates.

Policymakers have long wanted to see a stronger contribution from manufacturing and business investment and the Bank of England has sounded increasingly concerned in recent weeks about the risk of the housing market overheating.

The BoE data showed lenders approved 62,918 mortgages in April, the fewest since last July and 17 percent below a six-year high in January. It was the third consecutive monthly slowdown and below the 64,750 forecast in a Reuters poll.

At the same time, the Markit/CIPS UK Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) inched down in May to 57.0, as expected in a Reuters poll but stayed far above the 50 line that divides growth from contraction.

New orders piled in at a healthy rate and manufacturers took on more staff, albeit at a slightly slower pace than in April.

The BoE said on Monday that lending to non-financial businesses shrank by 2.4 billion pounds in April on top of a fall of 2.5 billion pounds in March. Lending to small businesses alone also contracted, down 0.6 billion pounds.

The data was unlikely to alter expectations that the BoE is likely to raise interest rates in the second quarter of 2015 and that it will try other measures to head off the risk of a bubble in the housing market, possibly as soon as this month.

Berenberg's Wood said "tighter mortgage regulations are more a speed bump than a road block for the housing market", where house prices have grown around 10 percent over the past year.

He said the rules would not end surging housing demand.

Options open to the BoE include making banks hold more capital against certain types of home loans or urging caps on how large mortgages can be compared to a borrower's income.

"While the slowdown in lending may persuade the FPC to refrain from taking action to cool the market, unless there is evidence that loan-to-income ratios are moderating some form of action will still be on the table," Matthew Pointon, property economist at Capital Economics said.

FalconStor(R) Updates Its Migration, Continuity, and Protection-Recovery Solutions

MELVILLE, N.Y., May 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- FalconStor Software (R), Inc. (FALC), a market leader in data protection and migration, today announced product updates to its Migration, Continuity, and Protection-Recovery solutions. Major highlights include additional migration support for service providers and cloud-ready data centers, new encryption at rest technology, and 195 percent improved data recovery speed compared to the previous version.

Service providers and cloud-ready environments can leverage the benefits of FalconStor technology installed on the latest blade platforms from Dell, while utilizing faster Xeon processors and Qlogic converged network adapters for a smaller data center footprint. This update allows customers and service providers to deploy FalconStor solutions in a consolidated, optimized, and cloud-ready data center.

"The biggest challenge many organizations face when adopting cloud is migrating their data from its existing location to the new infrastructure. We're focused on expanding our technology capabilities and partners to enable more users to adopt private clouds," said Gary Quinn, President and CEO, FalconStor. "FalconStor leverages a component of its optimized data services, Intelligent Abstraction, which enables data to move from an existing storage device onto a cloud infrastructure seamlessly and transparently to the customer."

As part of the deduplication solution update, FalconStor has introduced new encryption at rest technology to provide the highest level of security for data protection. For environments that have strict security requirements or are required to comply with government regulations, this technology provides the ability to encrypt all data being sent to virtual tape. Data is deduplicated and encrypted as it is stored on disk. FalconStor's encryption at rest offering will be provided free of charge, and is available for all new installations.

"We're committed to consistently updating products with features and functionality that our customer base requires. For organizations with highly sensitive data, especially the federal government, this feature ensures compliance with regulatory and industry security requirements," added Quinn.

Additional product updates:

  • Restore speeds of up to 16TB/hr, a 195 percent improvement compared to the previous version, helping avoid costly downtime.
  • Database and application support list expanded to include Windows 2012R2, Hyper-V 201R2 Clusters, and SQL Server 2014 database.
  • New functionality that allows users to choose which storage and protection features participate in the stretch cluster configuration; reducing the storage and implementation costs of providing high availability for applications and servers.
  • Snapshot groups can now create simultaneous snapshots of up to 256 virtual devices, to increase the volume of data that can be protected simultaneously, reduce the number of backup jobs, and further reduce recovery times.
  • Improved management and reporting capabilities for FalconStor Protection-Recovery: including new performance monitoring, disk usage reports, and multi-select features. Users can monitor the load and performance of ports, LUNs, devices, and snapshots, in either real-time or historical views, right from the centralized administration console.
  • The deduplication console now provides full support for the Chinese language.

"All of these upgrades contribute to our mission of providing customers freedom. Adding to our supported technology list gives customers the peace of mind to update technology without the fear of lock-in or lack of support. Reduced recovery times, expanded reporting, and simpler management all contribute to giving our customers the freedom to manage their data how they want," concluded Quinn.

Kroll Ontrack Expands Its Support for Externalized Storage and Shredded Files to StorSimple SharePoint Database ...

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Kroll Ontrack, the leading provider of data recovery and ediscovery products and services, today announced the availability of Ontrack® PowerControls™ version 7.2. Adding support for StorSimple SharePoint Database Optimizer, in addition to Metalogix StoragePoint and FileStream, Ontrack PowerControls is a comprehensive tool for accessing, searching and restoring externalized Microsoft SharePoint 2013 data. It also addresses the complex challenge of reassembling shredded files directly from a SharePoint 2013 backup without needing to restore the entire database.

The StorSimple solution uses SharePoint APIs to offload large BLOBs from SharePoint databases. This helps maintain performance levels for SharePoint servers and facilitates SharePoint disaster recovery by reducing the size of the databases that must be restored. Leveraging Ontrack PowerControls 7.2 empowers IT administrators to granularly rebuild these externalized databases and shredded SharePoint files during the restore process.

“Native SharePoint SQL storage is very expensive and huge database volumes can impact performance, so organizations leverage remote BLOB solutions like StorSimple to externalize BLOB data to reduce storage costs and increase performance,” said Tom McCaffrey, product director for enterprise solutions, Kroll Ontrack. “Ontrack PowerControls 7.2 allows IT administrators to restore individual items without conducting a full database restore.”

Results from a recent Ontrack PowerControls customer survey revealed that 34 percent of respondents frequently receive requests for restoring SharePoint items, lists, libraries and folders. Forty-one percent of those surveyed went on to say they save more than 50 percent of time responding to these requests leveraging Ontrack PowerControls than using traditional restoration methods.

“Granular item restore with Ontrack PowerControls 7.2 is a game changer in how search and restoration from BLOBs is addressed, and we couldn’t be happier with the result,” said Burzin Patel, marketing director for StorSimple, Microsoft Corporation. “StorSimple customers can easily locate critical files, and restore them with ease, saving significant time.”

In addition to support for StorSimple, Ontrack PowerControls 7.2 also supports Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Microsoft Office 2013 Service Pack (SP1).
